Family Fun

I saw a great idea in Family Fun magazine and adapted it for our vacation.
The idea was to take a bucket and shovel and fill it with fun stuff for your kids for the whole summer. Suggestions were movie passes, sidewalk chalk, etc.
Since we are getting ready to go camping (in a cabin, with air conditioning and beds I bought buckets for my kids and filled it with fun stuff. I honestly think I am more excited about it then they will be.
Anyway, we went to the dollar store and for a little over $20 I was able to fill their buckets with cool stuff: glow in the dark bracelets, water games, water guns, goggles, yoyos (Cars and Disney Princesses), trail mix, bubbles, gum, sunglasses, jelly beans, bug catchers, and girly soap and loofah for Macie for the trip to the shower house. (It was fun making one for a girl and one for a boy). I wish I had a digital camera to show how cute these little “gift buckets” are. I can’t wait to see them enjoy their stuff and make some great memories together.
By the way, Family Fun magazine is great for ideas like this. The subscription is fairly cheap and it’s a monthly reminder for me to put the value of family fun into practice.

I read the following information in “The Frantic Woman’s Guide to Life”:

If you have an infant or toddler who’ll be getting in the water with you, chances are good that you’ll be packing some disposable swimming diapers. But when you’re swimming every day, doesn’t the cost of this convenience kill you–especially when some babies are only in the water for such a short period of time And isn’t a shame that they come so few in a package? Not really! While these pants are labeled “disposable,” you can actually wash them in the washer using hot water and your usual laundry detergent, dry them in the dryer and reuse them several times — provided the child only urinates in them. When the material on the sides of the pants begins to show signs of thinning (usually after 3 to 5 washings) discard and start another pair. Now you can confidently change these disposable swimming pants on your toddler several times a day and not have to break your budget to do it.

1 Devil’s Food Cake Box mix
2 eggs
1/2 c. oil
1 c. chocolate chips

mix.
roll into balls.
place on cookie sheet.
bake @350 for 10-12 mins.

Hospitality: Simple Menus

We’ve been so excited to start having people over again now that we’ve adjusted a little more to having 3 cuties. I’m looking for simple menus that I can prepare most of ahead of time, and that are kid-friendly. Last Saturday my extended family came over and we had crockpot bbq, cole slaw, corn muffins and cheesecake pie (no bake). This weekend we are having a family from church over and I’m thinking about grilled chicken (marinated in Italian dressing), bowtie pasta salad, corn on the cob and ice cream. Do you have any simple menu ideas???
